You already understand how important blogging is to your success as an Internet Marketer. Actually, getting one going and populated with your posts is really pretty much of a no-brainer. You know, however, that you need to put some regular maintenance into the other areas of your blog as well. A blog that never gets updated (outside of its primary content column) isn’t going to stay popular for very long. While the basic design can be considered branding, there are other things that you need to think about.
If you have never paid much attention to formatting your blog content in an optimal way, then you need to ensure that is up to par. You can help out by having images and the like with the content so that breaks up the text. You can experiment with different kinds of layouts for your information, and then monitor the times spend on the pages. The idea is to make sure that people can scan your content without having to move their screens up if they don’t want to. See what you can find out from observing established blogs, and you just have to study them and then emulate them.
Don’t ask your readers to take more than one sort of action. Asking them to do lots of different things will just confuse them. Do you want them to subscribe to your list? Is getting lots of comments your goal? Do you want them to buy what you’re advertising in your sidebar?
Do you want them to use your blog as a portal to your sales page? Don’t try to do all of that at once. Choose just one and make sure that you aim your blog in that direction. Your readers should be able to tell exactly what you want them to do from the moment they land on your page. The more you push them, the less likely they are going to be to do what you want them to do.
Obviously you already have a few social media profiles. You probably have, at the very least, Twitter and Facebook accounts. It’s also likely that you have signed up for sites like LinkedIn, Digg and Reddit–and a few others. Your blog should prominently feature button links for those accounts.
This tells your readers that it’s easy to follow you on all of those accounts. Don’t forget: you want your readers to feel as connected to you as they can be and if you keep your social media accounts hidden, they’ll have a hard time doing that. What this means, then, is that selling to them will be much more difficult. Avoid having a simplistic view about blogs because they can be very powerful if you want. So do not let it slip through your fingers, and learn what is available with a blog. So you can learn from others in your niche, and you will see them doing the same things if they are smart webmasters. Once you reach a certain point, then you will see that all this hard work will pay off, and your blog will start getting loads of traffic.
